Responsibilities
- Build and improve monitoring, observability, and alerting systems for the Lattice platform.
- Participate in on-call rotations, triage production incidents, and coordinate response and escalation.
- Contribute to blameless postmortems and drive systemic reliability improvements.
- Build shared reliability tooling and automation to reduce toil and surface production risks.
- Identify Kubernetes patch and version risks and track maintenance work to completion.
- Help service teams define and track SLOs and error budgets.
- Partner with engineering teams on graceful degradation, circuit breakers, deployment safety, progressive rollouts, automated testing, and rollback capabilities.
- Contribute to capacity planning and performance testing for high-throughput systems.
- Create runbooks, documentation, and training materials for production operations.
- Help incorporate security best practices and compliance controls in environments handling sensitive defense data.
Requirements
- 2–4 years of engineering experience, including 2+ years in SRE, production operations, or infrastructure engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on production Kubernetes troubleshooting experience, including version lifecycles, patching, and operational risks.
- Strong programming skills in Go, Python, Rust, or Java and the ability to build production-grade tooling.
- Experience with observability tooling for metrics, logging, and tracing, such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform.
- Ability to troubleshoot distributed systems across multiple layers and develop durable fixes with service-owning teams.
- Strong incident management, written, verbal, and technical communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Preferred: experience with defense, aerospace, or other mission-critical systems; performance optimization; capacity planning; chaos engineering; resilience testing; Kubernetes ingress and traffic management; GitOps; deployment automation; CI build infrastructure; Terraform at scale; incident and alerting tooling; networking fundamentals; configuration management; and secrets management.
- Preferred: experience with Gateway API, Contour, ArgoCD, FluxCD, CircleCI, Nix, Atlantis, PagerDuty, Datadog, or Groundcover, or similar tools.
- Preferred: active Secret or higher security clearance.
