
Software Engineer, Distributed Simulation

Responsibilities
- Design and build backend services that provision, orchestrate, and tear down distributed test and simulation environments on Kubernetes.
- Own major platform subsystems end to end, including design, rollout, operation, and iteration based on user feedback.
- Scale compute capacity and improve performance and efficient use of resources.
- Improve user-facing interfaces and abstractions for describing complex test environments.
- Build repeatable release and configuration tooling for cloud and on-premise deployments.
- Improve reliability through instrumentation, monitoring, performance work, and root cause analysis.
- Contribute to design and code reviews, technical mentorship, and technical writing.
- Work with internal teams, business lines, and external customers to turn platform needs into shipped improvements.
Requirements
- 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Computer Science degree or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong production experience with Go, Rust, C++, Java, or Python.
- Production experience building and operating distributed systems or infrastructure platforms, including deployment, monitoring, debugging, and on-call ownership.
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience with deep knowledge of controllers, operators, custom resources, and other components.
- Experience with infrastructure as code and modern build and deployment tooling such as Terraform and Helm.
- Ability to own ambiguous, cross-cutting projects through production.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including design-document writing.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Preferred: platform or developer-tooling experience, KubeVirt, qemu, virtualization or hypervisor technologies, large Kubernetes clusters, simulation, modeling, robotics testing, hardware-in-the-loop systems, AWS, Azure, on-premise deployment, Bazel, Buck, Nix, gRPC, protobuf, performance optimization, metrics, alerting, Linux, and databases.
