Responsibilities

  • Own and build ALSO’s storefront, product detail, collection, category, gear, merchandise, and seasonal landing pages.
  • Extend and steward the design system, including component libraries, tokens, and composable page patterns.
  • Architect Shopify theme sections, blocks, metafields, and metaobjects so creative and merchandising teams can launch pages independently.
  • Translate Figma files, mood boards, and creative concepts into polished, shipped frontend experiences.
  • Implement merchandising surfaces such as faceted filtering, sorting, variant and colorway selection, swatches, cross-sells, bundles, badging, and inventory-aware states.
  • Support concurrent seasonal and product-line campaigns with scheduling, staged launches, and graceful takedowns.
  • Maintain high standards for Core Web Vitals, accessibility, responsive behavior, cross-browser correctness, and analytics instrumentation.
  • Define data and API contracts with backend engineers and integrate commerce, catalog, and account systems while keeping presentation and business logic cleanly separated.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of frontend engineering experience, including at least 3 years on commerce storefronts.
  • Deep hands-on Shopify experience with Liquid, Online Store 2.0 theme architecture, sections, blocks, metafields, metaobjects, Storefront and Admin GraphQL APIs, and the theme development toolchain.
  • Experience building for multi-product-line brands spanning hard goods, apparel, accessories, parts, and merchandise.
  • Experience delivering seasonal launches and multiple overlapping campaigns without creating one-off template sprawl.
  • Practical experience building or materially extending component libraries and design-token systems from Figma libraries.
  • Expertise in JavaScript or TypeScript, CSS architecture, modern component frameworks such as React, build tooling, and progressive enhancement.
  • Strong knowledge of category and collection page design, including faceted navigation, sorting, pagination or infinite scroll, and color and variant presentation.
  • Experience treating Core Web Vitals, image and font strategy, responsive behavior, cross-browser correctness, analytics instrumentation, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility as defaults.
  • Ability to independently drive ambiguous creative direction to shipped results and collaborate effectively with creative, UX, and backend engineering teams.
  • Bonus experience with Hydrogen, Oxygen, headless Shopify, SearchSpring, Algolia, Klaviyo, reviews and loyalty apps, Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensibility, Markets, B2B storefronts, experimentation platforms, tag management, motion design, product configurators, or made-to-order flows.
  • Backend familiarity with Node.js on AWS is a bonus.

  • One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates.
  • Fertility and family-building benefits through Progyny.
  • Flexible time off.
  • 401(k) match.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company on a mission to build the world’s best small vehicles for moving people and goods, driven and autonomous. Originally incubated within Rivian, we’re rethinking transportation from first principles to create a new generation of smaller, smarter, and more connected electric vehicles. Our team combines automotive rigor with advanced software, autonomy, sensing, and vertically integrated EV technologies to build products designed around the realities of modern mobility. We believe small vehicles are not a niche category, but a foundational shift in how people, goods, and communities will move through the world in the decades ahead. At ALSO, details matter. We’re builders, technologists, designers, and dreamers who care deeply about craft, innovation, and the everyday experiences our products create. Because movement is more than transportation—it’s connection, culture, freedom, and collective impact. We’re building that future now.
