Responsibilities
- Own architecture and system design decisions for the hardest systems across the company’s portfolio.
- Write code, prototype ideas, debug difficult failures, and work directly alongside engineering teams.
- Review high-risk implementations and improve engineering quality through hands-on technical leadership.
- Build useful AI systems and turn successful approaches into reusable practices for other teams.
- Collaborate with Tech Leads on scalability, performance, reliability, and technical debt.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, prototype them, make recommendations, and document the reasoning.
- Translate vague client and stakeholder problems into clear technical direction.
- Mentor senior engineers and shape decisions without formal management authority.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience building and running production software while remaining hands-on with code.
- Deep expertise in system design, architecture, scalability, performance, distributed systems, and reliability.
- Experience setting technical direction across several teams or a large, long-running program.
- Deep proficiency in at least one programming language and comfort working in several others.
- Hands-on experience building LLM-based systems, including AI APIs, prompt and context design, and at least one of agents, RAG, or evaluation.
- Strong technical judgment about prioritization, technical debt, and when not to build.
- Ability to mentor senior engineers and influence decisions without formal authority.
- Comfort working directly with clients and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Preferred experience includes production AI systems at scale, evaluation harnesses, guardrails, cost and latency tuning, data platforms, cybersecurity, robotics, enterprise systems, internal tooling or platform work, open-source contributions, conference talks, or technical writing.
