Responsibilities
- Own critical Kotlin-based payment and backend services for KYB/KYC verification, third-party integrations, credit limits, monthly statements, and interest and fee calculations.
- Collaborate with Product and Design to improve the retailer experience from enrollment and checkout through statements and repayment.
- Partner with Risk and Data Science to integrate eligibility, underwriting, and limit-assignment signals.
- Measure and iterate on program performance using experimentation and analytics to drive adoption and healthy repayment behavior.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to design reviews, testing, and operational excellence for systems handling real money.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in backend systems, equivalent to a minimum of 60 months.
- Proficiency in Kotlin or similar object-oriented languages, with strong grounding in distributed systems, service design, and data consistency.
- Experience designing systems where correctness, auditability, and compliance are important.
- Experience partnering with Risk and Data Science on risk models, underwriting pipelines, or experimentation frameworks.
- Strong communication skills and a track record of cross-functional collaboration.
- Curiosity about financial products and the ability to balance retailer experience with sound risk management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in payments, credit, or lending is a strong plus.
Benefits
- Base salary in Canada is $156,000–$214,500 per year, plus equity and benefits.
