Responsibilities
- Co-own the end-to-end MaaS architecture and maturity roadmap while authoring design records, setting Go and API standards, mentoring engineers, and coordinating technical execution.
- Own inference gateway compatibility for OpenAI and Anthropic formats, including streaming, tool calling, structured output, routing, versioning, deprecation, circuit breaking, and fallbacks.
- Optimize token throughput, KV-cache tiering, time-to-first-token latency, model deployment, LoRA multiplexing, and cold-start-aware autoscaling across Kubernetes.
- Build globally distributed regional inference pools with active-active control planes, capacity-aware failover, strict SLOs, load testing, on-call runbooks, and overload load-shedding.
- Design fail-closed authorization, identity and credential lifecycle management, multi-tenant isolation, zero-retention data paths, rate limits, quotas, abuse controls, and prompt-injection defenses.
- Build exactly-once token metering, high-volume usage ledgers, prepaid spend caps, and accurate reconciliation with invoicing systems.
- Execute safe incremental migrations using strangler-style replacements, shadow traffic, and stateful dual-writes while delivering end-to-end tracing and cost telemetry.
- Own operational observability, incident response, blameless reviews, and structural reliability improvements for the platform.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience.
- 3+ years owning a high-traffic, multi-tenant API platform for paying customers.
- Proven experience scaling distributed systems through multi-region active-active deployments, caching, backpressure, and performance engineering.
- Track record of safely executing zero-downtime brownfield migrations for stateful subsystems such as metering or ledgers.
- Deep hands-on proficiency with Go-based services, production Kubernetes, Envoy, GPU-aware scheduling, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka.
- Experience building observability strategies with OpenTelemetry and high-cardinality analytics stores.
- Systems-level understanding of LLM serving, server-sent-event streaming, KV and prefix caching, time-to-first-token versus throughput trade-offs, and model-serving operations.
- Experience designing reliable exactly-once metering and billing systems that reconcile large event volumes under partial failure conditions.
- Strong understanding of multi-tenant security, fail-closed authorization, verified identities, cross-tenant isolation, on-call operations, and incident management.
- Ability to collaborate with architects, write rigorous technical design documents, and execute architectural decisions.
