Responsibilities
- Set technical direction, architecture patterns, and high-stakes engineering decisions across multiple domains and systems.
- Lead complex, multi-team, long-horizon initiatives from architecture through delivery and operational excellence.
- Design, prototype, and ship production systems using AI development tools while maintaining high standards for quality, testing, and rigor.
- Develop practices, guardrails, and review discipline for safe AI-enabled software development in a regulated environment.
- Own reliability, scalability, and security for mission-critical systems.
- Mentor and coach engineers, raise engineering quality standards, and improve the effectiveness of surrounding teams.
- Advise engineering, product, and executive stakeholders and build consensus across teams.
- Represent Hi Marley internally and externally and help attract and grow engineering talent.
Requirements
- Typically 10+ years of software development experience; candidates with less experience may be considered.
- Track record of delivering large, complex production systems at scale and influencing technical direction across teams.
- Experience designing distributed architectures, ideally in AWS, with expertise in scalability, loose coupling, separation of concerns, and designing for failure.
- Experience designing systems where AI and agents are architectural components, including agent design, orchestration, configurability, guardrails, and rigorous verification of AI-generated work.
- Sound judgment for building responsible AI products in a regulated, high-trust environment.
- Experience with relational and document-oriented databases, including performance tuning and scaling.
- Proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript, plus frontend frameworks such as React.
- Ability to influence without authority, build consensus, communicate complex issues clearly, and mentor engineers.
- Currently authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future sponsorship.
