Responsibilities
- Chair the Architecture Board and maintain the architecture decision register with owners and due dates.
- Run the Architecture Decision Record gate that workstreams must pass before build.
- Set the target-state architecture connecting the legacy platform, new platform, and migration path.
- Hold architecture authority over foundational programs spanning data, identity, events, and core services.
- Review designs and code changes with senior engineers and improve technical decision-making across the organization.
- Represent architecture decisions directly to executive leadership.
Requirements
- 15+ years of software engineering experience.
- Experience serving as the accountable architect for a large-scale platform transformation or re-platforming, ideally in marketplace, commerce, or transactional systems.
- Experience making and defending consequential decisions involving event-driven architecture, service decomposition, data and identity modeling, and build-versus-buy.
- Strong written communication skills demonstrated through Architecture Decision Records, RFCs, and technical assessments.
- Sufficient technical depth to read designs and diffs and sufficient seniority to challenge executive stakeholders.
- Experience establishing architecture authority through influence and decision rights rather than organizational headcount.
