Base Salary
$216k - $324k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define the technical strategy, vision, and architectural roadmap for Klaviyo’s backend, dependencies, and Developer Infrastructure platform.
- Lead analysis, optimization, risk assessment, and contingency planning for backend and third-party dependencies.
- Plan and oversee major software releases, platform upgrades, and production rollouts while making significant individual contributions.
- Improve developer productivity and engineering velocity by reducing toil and optimizing cycle-time metrics such as PR CI Speed, Human Code Review Pickup Time, and Commit Velocity by Repo.
- Mentor experienced lead and senior engineers and help them develop their organizational skills.
- Diagnose and resolve complex platform performance, scalability, and reliability issues while implementing proactive monitoring and telemetry.
- Partner with product managers, security teams, hardware engineers, Core Infrastructure, and other stakeholders to align technical decisions and requirements.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and practices to improve systems and internal engineering processes.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of software development experience with strong computer science fundamentals, domain-driven design, architectural patterns, and distributed systems expertise.
- BA or BS degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Deep expertise in relevant programming languages such as Go and Python.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP; Kubernetes and Docker; and Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
- Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy, shape product and platform vision, and influence architectural decisions across multiple teams.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system integration.
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Experience experimenting with AI in professional or personal projects and interest in responsibly adopting AI tools and workflows.
- Preferred experience with Pants, FastAPI, Django, React, Terraform, and Buildkite.
- Preferred background in performance optimization and complex testing data management, including large datasets and production-like data replication.

- The role may require up to 10% travel for onboarding, client or partner work, team meetings, and industry events, coordinated in advance.
