Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, deploy, scale, and operate components of the Customer Files Orchestration Service.
  • Design distributed systems supporting durable state, asynchronous workflows, retries, partial failures, and long-running processing.
  • Build queuing, rate-limiting, backpressure, circuit-breaking, dead-letter, crash-recovery, and autoscaling capabilities.
  • Implement consistency models, delivery guarantees, idempotent processing, state transitions, and recovery mechanisms.
  • Develop and maintain versioned file and workspace APIs with backward-compatible documented contracts.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, post-mortems, and long-term reliability improvements.
  • Build instrumentation, tracing, and monitoring and automate recurring operational processes.
  • Collaborate with storage, extraction, indexing, connector, and front-end engineering teams.
  • Mentor engineers through code and design reviews and contribute to engineering standards.
  • Support architecture, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, testing, observability, and production operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building production software and owning significant components in customer-facing systems.
  • Extensive production experience with Python and AWS.
  • Experience developing and debugging concurrent Python applications, including asyncio, event-loop behavior, background tasks, semaphores, worker pools, and throughput limitations.
  • Production Kubernetes experience, including KEDA-based event-driven autoscaling, resource requests, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with large-scale orchestration services or multi-stage data pipelines.
  • Understanding of consistency models, delivery guarantees, idempotent design, queues, rate limiting, backpressure, and multi-tenant fairness.
  • Experience designing versioned APIs with clear ownership, backward compatibility, and documented behavior.
  • Experience operating production services, participating in on-call rotations, responding to incidents, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong fundamentals in testing, code review, observability, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred experience with document management systems, extraction, OCR, format handling, large-file processing, and third-party integrations.
  • Preferred experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka, MSK, SQS, or similar technologies.
  • Preferred familiarity with Temporal, AWS Step Functions, retrieval or indexing pipelines for LLM or agentic applications, the legal industry, and Team Topologies concepts.
