Responsibilities

  • Translate customer and business problems into technical designs, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes.
  • Design, build, test, release, and operate scalable web applications and distributed services.
  • Develop production code across browser, server, API, and persistence layers.
  • Own systems through observability, capacity planning, rollout, incident response, post-incident learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Build systems meeting availability, latency, resilience, security, privacy, accessibility, and cost-efficiency expectations.
  • Collaborate with product, design, analytics, quality engineering, platform, security, and operations partners.
  • Use data, customer feedback, and controlled experimentation to evaluate decisions.
  • Improve developer productivity through tooling, automated testing, continuous delivery, documentation, and maintainable architecture.
  • Identify technical risks and technical debt and deliver incremental modernization.
  • Mentor engineers through pairing, design feedback, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development tools, and apply them responsibly.
  • Participate in a sustainable on-call rotation and share responsibility for production reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating large-scale web applications or distributed systems.
  • Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, networking, and distributed-system concepts.
  • Experience taking substantial features or services from design through production operation.
  • Experience producing technical designs, evaluating tradeoffs, reviewing code, and influencing implementation decisions.
  • Proficiency with Node.js and Express using server-side TypeScript or JavaScript, including API design, distributed services, and asynchronous or event-driven systems.
  • Proficiency with TypeScript or JavaScript, React or another modern component framework, semantic HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience delivering across browser, server, API, and persistence layers and diagnosing cross-layer issues.
  • Experience building responsive, accessible, performant, and cross-browser web experiences.
  • Experience with automated unit, integration, contract, or end-to-end testing and CI/CD practices.
  • Working knowledge of secure development, observability, performance analysis, and production troubleshooting.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical partners.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and improving team-level engineering practices.
  • Preferred experience with high-traffic commerce, payments, marketplace, advertising, or other customer-critical systems.
  • Preferred experience with cloud-native platforms, containers, orchestration, caching, messaging, or streaming technologies.
  • Preferred familiarity with service-level objectives, distributed tracing, capacity planning, resilience testing, and progressive delivery.
  • Preferred experience with server-side rendering, Core Web Vitals, internationalization, and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility.
  • Preferred experience with experimentation platforms, feature flags, metrics, data-informed product development, and legacy-system modernization.
  • Preferred familiarity with responsible generative AI use in software development, including validation, security, privacy, and intellectual-property considerations.

  • Base pay is listed in the range of C$142,400–C$190,100, with potential target bonus and restricted stock units excluded from this benefit summary.
