Responsibilities
- Architect and build large-scale systems and services for massive data volumes and real-time workloads, including extending high-scale ingestion pipelines for new data objects.
- Own customer-facing products from problem definition and development through launch, adoption, and continued improvement.
- Own and improve the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of backend systems supporting Braze’s core data objects.
- Drive architectural direction, scope large technical efforts, manage technical debt, and lead major engineering initiatives.
- Mentor engineers on software design, coding, and operations best practices.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, product managers, and stakeholders to integrate core data systems with business objectives.
- Research and advocate for appropriate new technologies and system improvements.
- Maintain operational procedures including alerts, on-call rotations, and troubleshooting playbooks.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on full-stack development or backend services work with high-scale, high-throughput systems.
- Proven experience delivering customer-facing products on high-scale data systems from problem definition through launch and adoption.
- Experience building foundational data-driven systems at scale, including streaming, real-time pipelines, or large-scale data platforms.
- Strong technical leadership skills covering architectural direction, large-effort scoping, technical debt management, and communication of complex concepts.
- Deep understanding of software design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with a history of thriving in team environments.
- Familiarity with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, React, Go, and SQL or NoSQL databases is a bonus.
- Experience with MongoDB, Snowflake, or other data lake solutions is a bonus.
- Experience with Kubernetes and AWS, GCP, or Azure is a bonus.
- Experience with distributed systems, API design, monitoring, and related engineering best practices is a bonus.
