Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, administer, and optimize PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases and database objects.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve database performance, availability, data integrity, scalability, and query execution.
- Develop SQL queries, reports, materialized views, and database solutions for application development, analytics, and business reporting.
- Implement and maintain backup, recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders on enterprise database architecture and support.
- Evaluate database technologies and improve database infrastructure and Platform-as-a-Service environments.
- Support cloud-based, legacy, on-premises, and PaaS database environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
- At least five years of professional experience in database engineering, database administration, or a related role.
- Professional experience administering and optimizing PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with AWS and Azure database deployment, administration, and management.
- Experience implementing database migration, backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Strong expertise in SQL development, database performance tuning, and query optimization.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java or Python.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, database monitoring tools, and Agile software development environments.
- Knowledge of advanced PostgreSQL features including JSON, full-text search, PostGIS, WAL archiving, replication, and point-in-time recovery.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a government clearance.
- Preferred qualifications include Department of Veterans Affairs or federal agency experience, SAFe or Agile methodology experience, and AWS, Azure, MongoDB, or other database-related certifications.
