Responsibilities
- Build Alpaca’s proprietary services for advisory products including block trading, portfolio management, and IRA services.
- Design and architect highly available, scalable, concurrent, low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems.
- Write production code across frontend and backend systems, databases, and financial transaction infrastructure.
- Develop and implement Order Management Systems and other heavily loaded financial transactional systems.
- Make critical technical decisions focused on customer experience, system performance, and long-term maintainability.
Requirements
- Previous software engineering experience with trading or exchange systems, including OMS, EMS, exchanges, market making, algorithmic trading, or quantitative trading.
- Strong system design skills in object-oriented data modeling, service-oriented architectures, and system abstraction.
- Experienced software engineering background with senior-level experience preferred.
- Coding ability in low- and high-level languages such as C, C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, and Python.
- Experience optimizing low-latency and high-throughput systems.
- Experience with messaging queues and message brokers.
- Knowledge of algorithms, distributed systems, scalability, high availability, databases, low-latency systems, and concurrency control.
- Analytical, data-oriented mindset and experience developing and implementing OMS or highly loaded financial transactional systems.
- FIX protocol knowledge preferred.
- Experience with observability, tracing, continuous profiling, and benchmarking preferred.
