Responsibilities
- Design future-state technical systems aligned with product goals and existing systems.
- Lead engineers inside and outside the immediate team in building technical solutions.
- Help define product and UX requirements with designers, product managers, and stakeholders.
- Maintain technical quality across system design, code review, and production operations.
- Mentor engineers on technical and collaboration skills.
- Identify solutions that improve technical and product engineering excellence.
- Collaborate with engineering teams across hosting, guest, mobile, and data engineering.
- Prototype, evaluate, and implement solutions for Airbnb’s AI-driven growth platform.
Requirements
- 10+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced technology environment.
- Strong proficiency in at least one major backend programming language, such as Java, Kotlin, Scala, or Python.
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Track record of delivering end-to-end products from ideation and planning through implementation and launch.
- Experience with large-scale web application architecture, well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions, communicate technical trade-offs, and collaborate with cross-functional partners.
- Interest in data systems, analytics, intuitive user experiences, and AI-driven applications.
- Strong judgment balancing short-term business needs with long-term technical quality.
- Understanding of how backend systems are expressed in customer-facing user experiences.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, efficiency, availability, system quality, and user experience focus.
