Responsibilities
- Plan and prioritize projects based on product, technical, and business goals using data-driven decision-making.
- Design and build scalable backend systems, APIs, and data models for communications, experimentation, and personalization.
- Partner with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Analysts, and Design teams on customer acquisition and engagement strategies.
- Establish engineering practices that keep services secure, observable, performant, scalable, and maintainable.
- Create and monitor operational metrics, escalate issues, and participate in keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence and collaborative learning.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer focused on backend systems.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Proven experience delivering complex backend systems in production.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including asynchronous communication through design documents, technical specifications, and project plans.
- Ability to collaborate across Product, Data Science, Analytics, and Design teams.
- Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, or similar programming languages; experience with both Python and Kotlin is a plus.
- Experience with AWS or other major cloud providers.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with experimentation platforms such as A/B testing frameworks and feature-flagging systems.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and stream-processing tools such as Kafka and Kinesis.
- Exposure to large-scale personalization, recommendation, or messaging systems.
