Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Apache Flink and Apache Kafka control-plane and data-plane infrastructure across multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
- Lead development of real-time streaming lakehouse storage architecture for low-latency analytical workloads at scale.
- Drive high availability, automated fault recovery, and zero-downtime operations for production streaming topologies.
- Improve enterprise monitoring, distributed tracing, automated alerting, and failure-diagnosis tooling.
- Partner with global architecture and platform teams to evolve eBay’s real-time data ecosystem.
- Use AI coding agents and tools to deliver complex, maintainable, production-quality software.
Requirements
- Deep hands-on knowledge of distributed systems, data structures, concurrency, operating-system internals, and networking.
- Strong expertise in Java, Rust, or C++.
- Production-scale experience developing, tuning, and operating Apache Flink, including state backends, checkpointing, custom operators, and the Flink Kubernetes Operator.
- Proven Apache Kafka experience, or equivalent Apache Pulsar or RocketMQ experience, including broker architecture, partition strategy, and control/data-plane management.
- Experience running high-throughput stateful workloads on Kubernetes across hybrid or private cloud environments.
- Familiarity with streaming table formats and storage engines such as Apache Paimon, Apache Iceberg, or Apache Fluss.
- Hands-on experience delivering complex software with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex.
- Preferred experience writing custom Kubernetes operators or control planes, knowledge of RocksDB or LevelDB and memory management, and contributions to streaming open-source projects.
