
Customer Reliability Engineer (Airflow)
AstronomerResponsibilities
- Solve challenging Apache Airflow problems for customers, including configuration optimization and investigation of Airflow bugs.
- Provide technical guidance and white-glove customer support through ticketing systems and Zoom.
- Own the customer experience by prioritizing issues, meeting SLAs, and helping customers reach production.
- Develop expertise across Airflow, data engineering, Kubernetes, cloud engineering, and distributed systems.
- Spend up to 20% of time on side projects, including open-source Airflow contributions and internal monitoring and alerting systems.
- Work directly with customers’ data engineers, system administrators, DevOps teams, and management.
- Provide feedback that can influence the direction of the Apache Airflow project.
- Participate in daily pager coverage and paid weekend on-call rotations.
Requirements
- Background in data engineering.
- At least 4 years of experience with Python.
- At least 1 year of experience administering Airflow and creating DAGs.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containers.
- Experience with distributed systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work autonomously and independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer interactions.
- Experience mentoring junior team members.
- Open-source contributions are a bonus.
- Customer Support experience is a bonus.
- Familiarity with SQL and PostgreSQL is a bonus.
- Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, dbt, or similar data engineering tools is a bonus.
Benefits
- Estimated total compensation is $125,000-$130,000, plus equity and a comprehensive benefits package; compensation figures are excluded from the benefits summary.
