Responsibilities
- Design and ship core multi-tenant platform capabilities for scheduling, durable queues, ownership, placement, source monitoring, and compute allocation.
- Build primitives for isolation and fairness, including quotas, backpressure, resource accounting, and intelligent placement.
- Improve availability, latency, observability, and operational automation for ingestion pipelines, APIs, and compute allocation.
- Create shared interfaces for product teams to express pipelines and processing steps.
- Scale the control plane for more concurrent pipelines, higher ingest volume, and efficient compute and metadata usage.
- Participate in production support and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- 3–6+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems or cloud infrastructure in production.
- End-to-end ownership of ambiguous, cross-cutting technical problems from design through production.
- Strong proficiency in Java; C++ or systems-level experience is a plus.
- Experience with multi-tenant control planes, durable queues and at-least-once processing, distributed locking, leases, membership, cluster scheduling, or streaming and ingestion execution engines.
- Understanding of correctness under failure, including crashes, retries, redelivery, and exclusive ownership.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical design and cross-team collaboration.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with internal platforms, multi-tenant isolation and fairness, transactional or consensus-backed metadata stores such as etcd, ZooKeeper, or Spanner-style systems, open table formats, Kafka-style streaming, warehouse scheduling, and performance optimization at scale.
- Experience using AI as an engineering collaborator for design review, debugging, or test generation is a bonus.
