Responsibilities
- Design, build, review, test, and maintain Ruby on Rails features and services.
- Own technical delivery for projects, epics, and major user stories from solution design through production.
- Develop and evolve scalable, maintainable, and high-performing RESTful APIs and web applications.
- Contribute to architectural decisions, prototyping, and separation of major components and subsystems.
- Partner with Product, QA, DevOps, Security, and engineering teams to deliver software into production.
- Promote code quality through reviews, automated testing, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly for coding, debugging, and prototyping with human validation.
- Mentor engineers, share knowledge, and improve technical execution and delivery practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in a commercial software environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and production-grade backend or full-stack web applications.
- Strong experience designing and implementing APIs and web services, including RESTful services.
- Experience designing secure software with DevOps, infrastructure as code, and automated delivery practices.
- Understanding of microservices or service-oriented architectures and distributed-system trade-offs.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, and common collaboration and branching workflows.
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor peers, contribute to engineering standards, and break down larger initiatives.
- Working knowledge of SQL and data modeling, application performance, and persistence-layer design.
- Preferred: experience with AWS-based systems, cloud deployment patterns, message queues, asynchronous processing, event-driven integration, CI/CD, containerization, observability, operational service ownership, or legacy Rails modernization.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
