Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of complex database features focused on transaction management, performance, scalability, consistency, and reliability.
- Solve SQL execution challenges and support transactionally consistent DDL, schema evolution, and versioning in distributed database systems.
- Optimize large-scale database operations and develop patterns for data integrity, consistency, and efficient manipulation across distributed datasets.
- Build database services on AWS, GCP, or other public cloud platforms.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and troubleshoot complex production database issues to maintain service availability.
- Contribute to the roadmap for core database technologies and frameworks and influence architectural decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of software development experience focused significantly on large-scale, database-intensive, distributed applications.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
- Deep knowledge of database transaction management, concurrency control, isolation levels, and distributed transactions.
- Experience designing database applications for high-volume, complex data operations, including query tuning and performance analysis.
- Strong programming skills in at least one relevant language such as Java, Python, or PL/SQL, with systems-level database programming experience.
- Preferred: MS or PhD in databases or distributed systems.
- Preferred: PostgreSQL development experience, including open-source contributions.
- Preferred: experience operating and managing the lifecycle of large-scale distributed database systems.
- Preferred: familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes in production database environments.
- Preferred: knowledge of database performance tuning, monitoring, observability, database-as-a-service platforms, and distributed database architecture.
