Responsibilities
- Deploy, manage, scale, and optimize Kubernetes clusters on AWS EKS and Oracle OKE.
- Automate cluster lifecycle operations using Terraform, Helm, GitLab, ArgoCD, Flux, or similar tooling.
- Design and implement Istio service meshes across multi-cluster and multi-cloud environments.
- Configure canary releases, blue/green deployments, traffic splitting, fault injection, circuit breaking, mTLS, zero-trust networking, and policy enforcement.
- Manage Istio ingress and egress gateways and Envoy proxy configurations.
- Implement cloud-native networking, service discovery, network policies, and secure communication patterns.
- Integrate Istio with OIDC, OAuth2, SPIFFE, and SPIRE identity frameworks.
- Build observability and reliability capabilities using Prometheus, Grafana, Kiali, Jaeger, Zipkin, CloudWatch, and OCI Monitoring.
- Troubleshoot mesh latency, routing failures, sidecar performance, and other service-mesh issues.
- Implement SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets.
- Integrate Kubernetes and Istio with CI/CD pipelines and automate operations using Python, Bash, or Go.
- Support platform self-service capabilities for development teams.
Requirements
- 7–9 years of experience in Kubernetes platform engineering.
- Hands-on production experience with Istio.
- Strong knowledge of Amazon EKS and Oracle OKE cluster architecture and operations.
- Deep understanding of Envoy proxy behavior and service mesh patterns.
- Proficiency with Terraform, Helm, GitOps tools, and YAML-based configuration management.
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, including VPCs, CNI plugins, ingress and egress, and load balancers.
- Experience with observability stacks including Prometheus, Grafana, Kiali, and Jaeger.
- Solid scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Go.
- Preferred experience with multi-cluster or multi-mesh deployments.
- Preferred knowledge of AWS App Mesh or OCI Service Mesh.
- Preferred familiarity with SPIFFE/SPIRE identity frameworks.
- Preferred experience with container security tools including Falco, Trivy, Aqua, or Prisma.
- Certifications such as CKA, CKAD, CKS, AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, or OCI Architect are preferred.
