Responsibilities
- Build autonomous and agentic software development lifecycle features aligned with GitLab’s product roadmap.
- Develop and deploy AI agents for merge request authoring, test generation, security remediation, and related engineering tasks.
- Create orchestration patterns and safety guardrails for AI services.
- Measure and improve the performance, latency, correctness, and reliability of AI-driven features.
- Collaborate with Product, engineering, and AI and machine learning teams to deliver solutions iteratively.
- Write maintainable code, conduct code reviews, document systems, and contribute reusable libraries and playbooks.
- Participate in on-call rotations and debug complex issues involving AI services and autonomous agents.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and support secure, compliant, and reliable systems.
Requirements
- Experience building and shipping production-grade software applications, including transferable experience from related engineering domains.
- Experience with AI and machine learning application programming interfaces, large language models, or agentic frameworks in a web development context.
- Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Ruby, Go, or Python.
- Experience working with distributed systems, testing frameworks, observability tools, and performance monitoring.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, continuous integration and continuous delivery, and developer tools.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate across functions.
- Experience writing maintainable code, reviewing others’ work, and supporting secure and reliable systems.
- Ability to mentor junior and intermediate engineers and help them develop technical skills and understanding of AI patterns.
