Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and architecture strategy for Data Access systems, prioritizing scalability and maintainability.
- Develop and enhance platform technologies for high-performance, reliable, secure, and scalable data access.
- Build and optimize SQL generation for Trino, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, and Oracle databases, including table management and metadata.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues involving memory leaks, concurrency, locking, networking, and intermittent failures.
- Own cross-team features from design through delivery and drive projects to completion with quality.
- Lead design reviews, code reviews, and engineering best-practice adoption across multiple teams.
- Create comprehensive functional, regression, integration, and performance test strategies.
- Mentor junior, senior, and staff-level engineers and raise engineering quality across the organization.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineering leadership to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software development experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 8+ years with a master’s degree, or 6+ years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated technical leadership at the Staff or Senior Staff level or equivalent, including influencing architecture across teams without direct authority.
- Expert-level Java development and object-oriented, modular software design experience.
- Advanced to expert backend platform development experience.
- Experience developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing relational databases and familiarity with RDBMS internals.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL Server, Trino, or comparable relational database technologies.
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and performance optimization at scale.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit, Selenium, or TestNG and integrating tests into development pipelines.
- Deep understanding of software quality, reliability, observability, production readiness, cloud-based systems, and distributed systems.
- Experience completing complex cross-team projects and troubleshooting difficult production issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including authoring design documents or RFCs and presenting technical strategy to senior leadership.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly and critically evaluate AI integration into engineering workflows.
- Familiarity with the ServiceNow platform, Unix shell, DevOps environments, or customer-focused environments is preferred.
