Responsibilities
- Design and train reliable, scalable AI/ML models for engineering teams across SpaceX.
- Design agentic AI systems and multi-agent workflows for engineering tasks.
- Build and optimize large-scale ML training pipelines and develop and fine-tune foundation models, including LLMs, vision models, and multimodal systems.
- Create production AI tools for data analysis, anomaly detection, predictive modeling, and automated decision-making.
- Collaborate on AI architecture, model design, training strategies, and code reviews.
- Rapidly prototype AI systems and quantify model performance, accuracy, and technical constraints.
- Own the AI model lifecycle from data preparation and training infrastructure through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Develop custom-trained AI solutions for complex engineering problems involving space hardware, electronics, and propulsion systems.
- Establish standards for model validation, safety, reliability, bias mitigation, and data security.
- Test and validate AI systems to ensure accurate, trustworthy, and production-ready results.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, or physics, or 4+ years of professional experience building and training AI/ML systems in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of experience in AI software engineering focused on model training, fine-tuning, and machine learning systems; professional and personal projects are applicable.
- 5+ years of programming experience in Python.
- Expert understanding of LLM transformer architectures, pre-training, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning.
- Experience training and fine-tuning LLMs and foundation models at scale, including computer vision models.
- Deep expertise with PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or equivalent ML frameworks.
- Experience with large-scale and distributed ML training pipelines, GPU clusters, hyperparameter optimization, experiment tracking, and MLOps.
- Knowledge of MLflow, Weights & Biases, model versioning, automated retraining, Linux, Git, testing, deployment, and monitoring for ML systems.
- Experience building agentic AI systems and multi-agent workflows.
- Experience with training data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL, non-relational databases, data lakes, feature stores, and optionally vector databases.
- Experience deploying containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
- Must meet applicable U.S. Government ITAR eligibility or authorization requirements.
