Responsibilities
- Implement and optimize distributed-system components for horizontal and vertical scalability under senior-engineer guidance.
- Conduct performance, load, functional, fault-injection, and brown-out testing.
- Configure retries, circuit breakers, timeouts, redundancy, replication, and failover mechanisms to improve reliability.
- Build telemetry, dashboards, alerts, and testing configurations to monitor component health.
- Draft and execute operational runbooks and procedures, troubleshoot issues, and participate in incident response and on-call rotations.
- Assist with data replication and synchronization to maintain data integrity and availability.
- Implement security measures including encryption and access controls, and assist with remediation plans and compliance documentation.
- Maintain automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code tools while following change-management procedures for updates, patching, and rollbacks.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of industry experience working on commercial or open-source software.
- Strong fluency in C++, Java, or similar modern programming languages.
- Strong systems-programming skills, including multithreading and concurrency experience.
- Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, consistency, scaling, and failure recovery.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and building control-plane systems for cloud scale, using AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with implementation testing, debugging, and documentation in a Linux development environment.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science required; master’s degree preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, willingness to question, and passion for making systems.
