Base Salary
$169k - $290k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end architecture and implementation of a distributed workflow engine from scratch
- Design the platform for 5–6 nines of availability and address tail latency and distributed state-management edge cases
- Integrate AI/ML models for predictive scaling, bottleneck detection, intelligent error recovery, and self-healing capabilities
- Solve distributed locking, timers, deterministic execution, and other durable-workflow challenges
- Validate architectural decisions against massive traffic patterns
- Set standards for architectural integrity and high-performance code
- Collaborate across the organization and influence platform adoption without direct authority
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or a closely related field
- At least 8 years of backend software development experience
- Proficiency in Java and the Spring Framework
- Experience working in cloud environments, particularly AWS
- Experience building and maintaining highly available, distributed systems
- Preferred: 12+ years of professional software development experience building backend infrastructure for global-scale traffic
- Preferred: experience managing systems with 5–6 nines of availability
- Preferred: deep expertise designing and deploying mission-critical databases, messaging queues, or orchestration engines
- Preferred: expert-level Java and Python proficiency with an understanding of concurrency and memory management
- Preferred: experience or architectural vision for using AI/ML for system and operational automation
- Preferred: familiarity with Temporal or Cadence programming models and architecture
- Preferred: experience with Kubernetes and containerization
- Preferred: Cassandra and TiDB experience
- Preferred: contributions to major open-source distributed-systems projects
- Preferred: expertise in distributed tracing and advanced telemetry
