Responsibilities
- Architect and implement the core C++ runtime for a large-scale interactive wargaming platform.
- Own the structure, performance, and long-term health of the engine codebase.
- Design entity-component systems, data-oriented storage, execution graphs, scheduling, and simulation loops.
- Build multithreaded task systems, deterministic execution, event processing, checkpointing, replay, serialization, and state replication.
- Integrate physics and mathematical models and create stable APIs, plugins, SDKs, and extension points for model developers.
- Optimize CPU utilization, memory, latency, throughput, cache locality, allocation, and simulation rate against explicit performance budgets.
- Develop spatial indexing, collision-candidate, visibility, proximity-query, networked-simulation, and distributed-simulation infrastructure.
- Build tooling for inspecting entities, debugging execution, profiling model cost, and understanding simulation state.
- Lead engine design reviews and major technical initiatives, mentor programmers, and remain hands-on in implementation, profiling, debugging, and code review.
Requirements
- Extensive professional C++ development experience or equivalent experience building performance-critical production software.
- Significant experience in commercial game development, game-engine development, or a similarly performance-constrained real-time environment.
- Experience shipping at least one commercial game, engine, platform, or interactive real-time product.
- Ownership of foundational engine systems such as a physics engine, game engine, simulation runtime, ECS, job system, or comparable core technology.
- Expert knowledge of modern C++, object lifetimes, ownership, templates, concurrency, synchronization, profiling, and low-level debugging.
- Strong understanding of data-oriented design, memory layout, cache behavior, allocation strategies, and performance-sensitive data structures.
- Experience with engine loops, execution graphs, task systems, event systems, dependency management, runtime scheduling, and APIs or extension frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize against CPU, memory, latency, and frame- or tick-time budgets using commercial profiling and debugging tools.
- Working knowledge of real-time physics concepts including coordinate systems, numerical integration, collision detection, spatial partitioning, constraints, and simulation stability.
- Experience leading major technical initiatives while remaining an active individual contributor.
- Active Secret clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
- Preferred qualifications include SIMD, GPU compute, custom allocators, job systems, lock-free structures, platform-specific optimization, large-world simulations, serialization, snapshotting, replay, streaming, and aerospace, robotics, autonomy, or defense simulation experience.
- Familiarity with HLA, DIS, OneSAF, JSAF, NGTS, STK, or AFISM and experience supporting Air Force, Space Force, joint, or broader DoW programs are preferred.
- Experience developing models for sensors, weapons, electronic warfare, jamming, communications, logistics, or command and control is preferred.
