$150k - $200k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build core Metropolis Web Services supporting IAM, notifications, message processing, and other critical infrastructure.
- Build and maintain service mesh infrastructure for secure, reliable, and observable communication among hundreds of microservices.
- Create developer tooling, platform automation, and delivery pipelines that help product teams ship safely and efficiently.
- Make platform-wide decisions about service boundaries, API design, data consistency, and system reliability.
- Architect and optimize high-throughput, low-latency systems supporting millions of global transactions.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, and reliability practices targeting 99.99% uptime.
- Lead architectural discussions, establish engineering practices, mentor engineers, and contribute to complex implementations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend software engineering experience focused on distributed systems and platform infrastructure.
- Expert-level Java proficiency, including JVM performance, concurrency, and ecosystem tooling.
- Production experience with microservices, Kubernetes, and AWS.
- Experience designing and implementing large-scale, high-availability distributed systems.
- Hands-on observability experience with metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting in high-load environments.
- Knowledge of relational databases, Kafka, SQS, caching strategies, and data consistency patterns.
- Experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, specifically context engineering.
- Strong technical communication, system documentation, technical discussion leadership, and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Scala experience, security compliance expertise, open-source contributions or technical writing, high-growth scaling experience, and hyperscale performance optimization are preferred.
