Base Salary

$150k - $200k/yr

Responsibilities

Design and build core Metropolis Web Services supporting IAM, notifications, message processing, and other critical infrastructure.
Build and maintain service mesh infrastructure for secure, reliable, and observable communication among hundreds of microservices.
Create developer tooling, platform automation, and delivery pipelines that help product teams ship safely and efficiently.
Make platform-wide decisions about service boundaries, API design, data consistency, and system reliability.
Architect and optimize high-throughput, low-latency systems supporting millions of global transactions.
Establish monitoring, alerting, and reliability practices targeting 99.99% uptime.
Lead architectural discussions, establish engineering practices, mentor engineers, and contribute to complex implementations.

8+ years of backend software engineering experience focused on distributed systems and platform infrastructure.
Expert-level Java proficiency, including JVM performance, concurrency, and ecosystem tooling.
Production experience with microservices, Kubernetes, and AWS.
Experience designing and implementing large-scale, high-availability distributed systems.
Hands-on observability experience with metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting in high-load environments.
Knowledge of relational databases, Kafka, SQS, caching strategies, and data consistency patterns.
Experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, specifically context engineering.
Strong technical communication, system documentation, technical discussion leadership, and cross-team collaboration skills.
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
Scala experience, security compliance expertise, open-source contributions or technical writing, high-growth scaling experience, and hyperscale performance optimization are preferred.
