Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver high-quality, scalable, maintainable, optimized, and secure mainframe software solutions.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and stakeholders to define requirements and solution strategies.
- Perform code reviews, promote engineering quality, and implement effective unit-testing practices.
- Provide technical oversight by reviewing solution and design quality, guiding large-scale implementations, and unblocking delivery teams.
- Support mainframe modernization and API enablement, including the use of z/OS Connect.
- Apply debugging, performance engineering, production stability, change management, and secure coding practices.
- Contribute to mainframe DevOps, automation, modern engineering practices, and automated delivery pipelines.
- Manage and mitigate risks and strengthen controls related to the team’s work.
- Guide technical direction, coach less experienced specialists, and advise stakeholders on functional and cross-functional impacts.
Requirements
- Strong proven experience in mainframe application design, development, and technical leadership.
- Deep expertise in COBOL, JCL, IMS/DB/DC, DB2, VSAM, CICS, TWS scheduling, stored procedures, and REXX.
- Strong understanding of mainframe debugging, performance optimization, and change-management tooling, including Endeavor, Abend-Aid, File-Aid, and DB2 Platinum.
- Experience with mainframe modernization and API enablement, including z/OS Connect.
- Hands-on experience adopting generative AI and AI-assisted software engineering tools for code understanding, development, or testing.
- Demonstrated ability to review and assure solution and design quality, guide complex implementations, and unblock delivery teams across multiple workstreams.
- Strong understanding of performance engineering and production stability considerations.
- Experience with mainframe DevOps practices and automated delivery pipelines is valued.
- Exposure to automation, modernization, and next-generation engineering practices in mainframe environments is valued.
- Strong banking or financial services domain knowledge is valued.
- Ability to demonstrate risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills.
