Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance software applications using Microsoft .NET technologies.
- Collaborate with project managers, program-area management, end users, and IT on application design, testing, implementation, and integration.
- Create relational SQL or Oracle databases with views, functions, and stored procedures based on business rules.
- Monitor database performance, review and resolve user issues, and make database changes to address performance problems.
- Manage data files extracted from SQL, Oracle, and DB2 databases for import into applications or export for analysis and executive decision-making.
- Implement metadata standards for application and system data elements.
- Follow development standards, perform source-control backups, and create technical documentation for applications and processes.
Requirements
- Applicants must be permanent in the Computer Specialist Software civil service title.
- A qualifying pathway requires a baccalaureate degree with 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two years of satisfactory full-time software experience.
- An alternative pathway requires a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and six years of qualifying full-time software experience.
- A satisfactory combination of education and experience may qualify; college education may substitute for up to two years of experience, and a relevant master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
- All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory full-time software experience as a project leader or major contributor on a complex project.
- Qualifying experience includes software design, programming, debugging, maintenance, implementation, enhancement, systems programming, systems analysis and design, data communication software, or database design and programming.
- Experience in computer operations, technical support, quality assurance, hardware installation, help desk, or end-user work does not satisfy the minimum qualifications.
- Candidates seeking Assignment Level IV must additionally have one year of satisfactory project-leader or major-contributor experience in data administration, database management systems, operating systems, data communications systems, capacity planning, or online applications programming.
