Base Salary
$150k - $215k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and adapt the technical strategy for search across Vannevar products and agentic workflows.
- Improve search latency, relevance, index quality, freshness, and retrieval performance.
- Collaborate with product engineers, designers, ML teams, and mission strategists to translate user needs into data-informed search innovations.
- Research and apply emerging search and information-retrieval technologies, trends, and best practices.
Requirements
- 7+ years of backend software development experience, including 3+ years in search, information retrieval, or related fields.
- Expertise in information retrieval, NLP, and machine learning, with deep knowledge of indexing, ranking, query parsing, tokenization, and vector search.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major search engine, such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Familiarity with search evaluation frameworks and metrics including precision, recall, and NDCG.
- Experience architecting, developing, and deploying reliable, scalable, and performant systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
- U.S. Person status is required because the position requires access to U.S.-only data systems.
