Base Salary
$176k - $308k/yr
Responsibilities
- Enhance scalable, performant, secure data access capabilities across relational, time-series, and columnar data stores.
- Develop and maintain complex Java platform code for SQL generation, database access, table management, and metadata.
- Set technical direction for Data Access initiatives and ensure scalable, maintainable architectures.
- Own features from design through delivery in collaboration with product managers and engineers.
- Lead design reviews, code reviews, testing strategies, and engineering quality practices.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues involving memory leaks, concurrency, locking, networking, and intermittent failures.
- Optimize relational database performance and contribute to reliability, observability, and production readiness.
- Mentor junior and senior engineers and influence architecture and engineering decisions.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software development experience with a bachelor’s degree, 6+ years with a master’s degree, 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
- Expert-level Java development and object-oriented, modular software design skills.
- Advanced backend platform development experience.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL Server, and Trino.
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and performance optimization at scale.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit, Selenium, and TestNG.
- Understanding of cloud-based and distributed systems, reliability, observability, and production readiness.
- Track record of completing complex projects and providing technical leadership on architecture and engineering decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including design documentation and technical presentations.
- Experience integrating AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving.
- Preferred qualifications include ServiceNow platform familiarity, RDBMS internals knowledge, Unix shell experience, DevOps-environment experience, and customer-focused experience.
