Responsibilities
- Review complex code contributions, design proposals, and technical RFCs.
- Architect, propose, and implement major features, capabilities, algorithms, infrastructure, and products.
- Translate technical designs and constraints for product managers, programme leads, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Mentor engineers and help scale the technical interviewing pipeline and engineering organisation.
- Share technical knowledge through tech talks, learning groups, and office hours.
- Maintain and evolve the software stack while diagnosing system issues, improving reliability and performance, and addressing technical debt.
- Design and develop robust micro- and macro-level test architectures and performance benchmarks.
- Present work during weekly demo sessions.
Requirements
- Proven track record writing legible, maintainable, performance-optimised systems software.
- Ability to design and integrate complex, heterogeneous systems reliably end-to-end.
- Seasoned senior-to-staff-level backend development experience.
- Expert-level mastery of a systems language such as Rust, Java, Go, or C++.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Extensive experience with pair programming and peer code reviews.
- Comfort working asynchronously through pull requests, design RFCs, and email discussions.
- Production-grade Rust and Python experience is preferred.
- Experience with container-based and cloud-native architectures such as Docker, Azure, or AWS is preferred.
- Experience with metrics and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK is preferred.
- Knowledge of SQL and high-throughput streaming database systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of low-level routing protocols such as IGP or BGP is preferred.
- Knowledge of cryptographic protocols such as Signal or WireGuard is preferred.
- Experience with hardware interfaces such as Arduino, robotics and control systems, or production ML systems and model deployment is preferred.
