Base Salary

$230k - $286k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components for foundation model training, LLM inference, similarity search, guardrails, evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.
  • Use open-source and SaaS AI technologies to build scalable foundational AI systems.
  • Invent and apply LLM training and inference optimization techniques to improve scalability, cost, latency, throughput, and hardware utilization.
  • Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap for Capital One’s foundational AI systems.
  • Partner with engineering, research, technical program management, and product teams to deliver AI-powered products.
  • Lead and mentor engineering team members and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus at least six years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a master’s degree in one of these fields plus at least four years of relevant experience.
  • At least six years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.
  • Experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent private cloud.
  • Experience designing, developing, integrating, delivering, and supporting complex AI systems.
  • Experience developing AI and ML technologies such as LLM inference, similarity search, vector databases, guardrails, and memory using Python, C++, C#, Java, or Go.
  • Experience developing and applying advanced techniques to optimize training and inference software for hardware utilization, latency, throughput, and cost.
  • Ability to understand AI research and apply novel techniques in production.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex AI concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor an engineering team and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Full-time annual base salary varies by location from $229,900–$262,400 in Cambridge or McLean and $250,800–$286,200 in New York or San Jose.
