Responsibilities
- Build and evolve features in the event-sourced Camunda 8 engine and its REST, gRPC, and MCP APIs.
- Own well-scoped work end-to-end, including implementation, testing, shipping, solution design, and design notes or ADRs.
- Develop engine features such as process-instance suspension and resumption, AI-agent process control, and variable tracing.
- Design and consume clean, developer-friendly APIs while preserving backward compatibility for integrations.
- Identify and optimize processing and data-access inefficiencies across RocksDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and relational/Postgres stores.
- Add observability, participate in code reviews and testing, address technical debt, and join support or on-call activities as ramp-up progresses.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional backend engineering experience.
- Understanding of event-driven systems and willingness to develop deep expertise in event sourcing and distributed systems, including consistency, ordering, and failure fundamentals.
- Strong API design instincts, particularly for REST APIs, with awareness of clean contracts and backward compatibility.
- Product thinking and focus on user outcomes.
- Ability to work independently, manage time and focus in a remote asynchronous environment, communicate progress, raise blockers, and follow through on commitments.
- Strong growth drive and willingness to take on unfamiliar and challenging problems.
- Clear written communication in a remote-first, asynchronous setting.
- Ability and/or willingness to use Camunda’s product.
