Responsibilities
- Design and implement search functionality in a Scala ecommerce backend.
- Develop lexical, semantic, and hybrid retrieval capabilities.
- Build search-related libraries using ElasticSearch and MongoDB.
- Improve search relevance and quality measurement.
- Operate scalable, multi-tenant search infrastructure on Kubernetes using Terraform.
- Test software components for usability, functionality, and performance.
- Contribute to scalable REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and production systems.
- Participate in a worldwide production on-call rotation and collaborate with Product Management and DevOps.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer with production JVM experience.
- Strong understanding of parallel and asynchronous programming and non-blocking I/O.
- Experience developing REST APIs and scalable architectures involving sharding, replication, load balancing, and failover.
- Interest in learning and using Scala with pragmatic functional programming patterns.
- Experience operating multi-tenant SaaS environments.
- Knowledge of scalable event-driven architectures, queues, and notification topics.
- Fluent English for international teamwork.
- Preferred experience with ElasticSearch or OpenSearch, inverted-index scoring and ranking, vector retrieval, embeddings, approximate nearest-neighbor indexes, hybrid ranking, relevance metrics, precision and recall tradeoffs, Helm, Kubernetes, or Rust.
- Curiosity about using AI tools to improve work effectiveness.
