Responsibilities
- Identify, scope, and solve complex platform problems across multiple teams.
- Drive initiatives from design documentation through organisation-wide adoption.
- Define engineering tools, standards, and practices.
- Architect scalable infrastructure and deliver self-service platforms and CLIs for engineers.
- Set platform observability standards covering monitoring, alerting, and health visibility.
- Partner with engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders to establish technical direction.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews and design feedback.
- Lead developer workflow, build and deployment, or observability platforms depending on team placement.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for critical platform services.
Requirements
- Staff-level background in Platform Engineering with strong programming experience in Python and Go.
- Experience with Java or TypeScript is a plus.
- Track record leading complex, cross-team platform initiatives end to end.
- Experience supporting engineering organisations with more than 1,000 engineers.
- Strong AWS experience.
- Kubernetes experience involving autoscaling, pod lifecycle, scheduling, and configuration in managed clusters.
- Experience shaping complex CI/CD pipelines at scale using Jenkins, GitLab CI, Buildkite, or similar tools.
- Experience with Bazel, Gradle, or similar monorepo build tools, with Bazel highly valued.
- Experience implementing production monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Proficiency with Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation as production code.
- Experience with release automation, deployment safety, developer tooling, internal developer platforms, open-source infrastructure, AI/LLM developer workflows, or build and capacity optimisation is valued.
