Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code principles.
- Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline operations and eliminate manual processes.
- Manage Docker-based containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Design, build, and operate a standardized self-service metrics, logs, and tracing platform for internal teams and customer-facing services.
- Partner with engineering teams to instrument applications and infrastructure using OpenTelemetry.
- Define and maintain SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets; build dashboards and tune alerting to reduce noise.
- Use observability data to optimize system performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Document infrastructure, deployment processes, and operational procedures.
- Provide second-tier engineering escalation during business hours and lead post-mortems for observability-platform incidents.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with distributed development teams across multiple locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field plus 2+ years of software engineering or related experience; alternatively, a master’s degree plus 1+ year or a PhD in a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, observability, or similar roles, including hands-on production experience operating Kubernetes-based systems.
- 2+ years of academic or work experience with a programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
- Extensive hands-on AWS experience, including CloudWatch, X-Ray, Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus, and Amazon Managed Grafana.
- Proficiency with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Advanced knowledge of Docker and the Kubernetes ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo or Jaeger, OpenTelemetry, and Alertmanager.
- Experience scaling metrics storage with Thanos, Mimir, or Cortex.
- Strong coding or scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Go.
- A strong software-development background with a security focus is advantageous.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, verbal, and written communication skills, along with leadership and mentoring ability.
