Base Salary
$225k - $265k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own durability, recoverability, and performance for the PostgreSQL/RDS fleet, including replication, failover, backup and restore, and storage behavior under load.
- Conduct restore testing and timed failover drills, and measure RPO/RTO for each production database tier.
- Manage the full data lifecycle, including retention, cleanup, data-layer access control, encryption posture, and sensitive-data location.
- Diagnose engine-level performance issues such as lock contention, WAL throughput, replica lag, bloat, index hygiene, and write amplification.
- Build database observability and extend AI-assisted health-check and schema-migration review tooling.
- Document runbooks and technical decisions and contribute to SLOs and blameless postmortems.
Requirements
- Five or more years running production PostgreSQL at meaningful scale, ideally with Amazon RDS or Aurora.
- Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL replication, WAL mechanics, MVCC, vacuum behavior, query planning, and performance.
- Experience owning data retention, backup and restore, access control, and security posture.
- Concrete disaster-recovery experience designing failovers, running drills, and applying lessons learned.
- Infrastructure fluency with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools, Python, Bash, SQL, Linux, and cloud storage/IOPS characteristics.
- Experience with SLOs, blameless postmortems, rehearsed recovery processes, and clear technical writing.
- Preferred experience with BigQuery, AlloyDB, Kafka-based pipelines, regulated or fintech environments, data classification, compliance review, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK-style observability stacks, or AI-assisted operations tooling.
