Responsibilities
- Define and evolve shared native mobile architecture across iOS and Android, including navigation, state management, networking, offline strategies, error handling, and modularisation.
- Own shared mobile libraries and frameworks for design systems, analytics, feature flags, experimentation, authentication, payments, and observability.
- Own application authentication and authorization mechanisms and ensure shared components are stable, documented, adoptable, and extensible.
- Drive mobile security improvements such as anti-tampering measures, certificate pinning, and security best practices.
- Define and track platform metrics including crash-free sessions, ANRs, app start-up time, bundle size, and network performance.
- Strengthen mobile observability through logging, metrics, tracing, and crash reporting, using data to guide priorities.
- Own and improve mobile CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, templates, documentation, and automation.
- Own the end-to-end iOS and Android release process and lead the on-call rotation for critical platform-level incidents.
- Define and enforce mobile engineering best practices for code quality and platform consistency.
- Lead cross-squad technical initiatives from problem definition through rollout and adoption, aligning engineering, product, design, and backend/platform stakeholders.
- Write clean, testable, well-structured code on iOS or Android while setting standards across both platforms.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, pairing, and coaching, and contribute to hiring, onboarding, and community growth.
Requirements
- 8–10+ years of experience building native mobile applications on iOS or Android, including at least 3+ years operating at a Senior or Staff level.
- Deep expertise in Swift, SwiftUI, Combine, and async/await for iOS, or Kotlin, AndroidX, Jetpack, Coroutines, and Hilt for Android, with commercial knowledge of both platforms.
- Proven experience leading cross-team technical initiatives and evolving mobile architectures, including modularisation, design systems, networking, or offline support.
- Strong focus on code quality, reliability, testability, maintainability, automated testing, and meaningful use of coverage.
- Experience owning and improving mobile CI/CD pipelines, including build optimisation, test stability, and release workflows.
- Ability to influence without authority, align engineers, product managers, and designers, and make pragmatic technical trade-offs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience defining and driving a mobile platform roadmap.
- Prior ownership of shared mobile libraries or frameworks used by multiple product teams at scale.
- Hands-on experience with mobile design systems, component libraries, analytics, experimentation, feature flagging, and observability tooling such as Crashlytics or Sentry.
- Experience in payments, fintech, or B2B SaaS domains, particularly where reliability, security, and regulatory requirements are important.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and contributing to hiring and mobile team growth.
- Contributions to the mobile community or evidence of thought leadership in mobile architecture and foundations.
