Responsibilities
- Plan and design software components, systems, and applications for Remote PHY devices, FDx AMPs, and related access-network systems.
- Develop and implement real-time control-plane and data-plane software using C/C++, Unix, Yocto, and the open-source RDK platform.
- Support development, testing, qualification, deployment, operations, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem resolution.
- Support and upgrade Remote PHY Node and FDx AMP software in large-scale customer-serving networks.
- Analyze, test, and integrate new applications and assist with software release rollouts.
- Collaborate with employees, contractors, suppliers, Operations, Quality Assurance, and other project stakeholders.
- Define functional and technical requirements and oversee technical documentation, test results, manuals, and reports.
- Provide guidance and training to junior software development engineers and distributed engineering teams.
- Present and defend architectural, design, and technical decisions to internal and external audiences.
- Work variable schedules, including nights and weekends, as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent coursework and experience or extensive related professional experience.
- 5-8 years of software system development and management experience, with the posting also listing 5-7 years of relevant work experience.
- At least 5 years of real-time system development experience.
- At least 5 years of DOCSIS modem/modulator-demodulator system development experience.
- Required experience with DevOps organizations, C/C++, scripting, Linux/Unix configuration and programming, and modern software design practices.
- Experience with Remote PHY and DOCSIS device development is strongly desired.
- Detailed understanding of DOCSIS, DSG, PacketCable, and PCMM protocols and related cable-network components.
- Preferred experience with Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, Jira, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Java certification.
- Preferred experience with RF and cable-plant engineering, modulation, forward error correction, multiple-access techniques, link budgets, performance characterization, and fiber, coaxial, and wireless networks.
- Preferred experience working with CableLabs, SCTE, cable operators, and standards-development organizations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and time-management skills.
