Base Salary
$185k - $227k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain the client-side telemetry system in the Rust core across all supported platforms.
- Develop metrics, structured logging, tracing, configurable verbosity, sampling, and export capabilities.
- Evolve log bundles into comprehensive support bundles containing device state, telemetry, configuration, and diagnostic metadata.
- Reduce the I/O and compute overhead of the SDK’s logging infrastructure.
- Own Rust SDK feature development and customer support, including debugging production integration issues.
- Ensure observability operates reliably on constrained hardware and does not degrade core SDK functionality.
Requirements
- 3+ years of systems-level Rust experience building production-grade libraries or systems.
- Experience with unsafe Rust, FFI boundaries, async runtimes, memory layouts, and performance optimization.
- Experience designing or significantly contributing to instrumentation, logging, metrics, or tracing systems.
- Experience building libraries or SDKs consumed by other developers, including API design and backward compatibility.
- Fluency working across language boundaries, including Rust FFI integrations with Swift, Kotlin, C#, JavaScript, and other runtimes.
- Strong written communication for design documents, RFCs, and code reviews in an async-first distributed team.
- Willingness to engage directly with customers and debug production issues.
- OpenTelemetry experience is preferred.
- Android, Kotlin, mobile platforms, embedded databases, data sync, offline-first architectures, developer tooling, developer experience, TCP, UDP, Bluetooth Low Energy, mesh networking, or relevant open-source contributions are nice to have.
