Responsibilities
- Architect and build a greenfield network infrastructure automation platform for provisioning, configuration, validation, compliance, state collection, drift detection, and safe change execution.
- Develop production-quality Python services, REST APIs, background workers, schedulers, device drivers, integration layers, and reusable packages.
- Create automation for Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Arista, and other network platforms, including zero-touch provisioning and Day-0 through Day-2 operations.
- Design relational data models and data-access layers for devices, sites, inventory, network intent, observed state, jobs, approvals, and compliance exceptions.
- Design and integrate Ansible inventories, roles, collections, modules, plugins, execution workflows, approvals, staged deployment, validation, and rollback.
- Establish testing strategies, device fixtures, virtual labs, contract tests, regression tests, and controlled promotion processes for high-risk network changes.
- Define production safety controls, observability, auditability, operational metrics, deployment standards, rollback readiness, and incident response practices.
- Use AI-assisted development responsibly while independently validating generated code, configurations, tests, and recommendations.
- Lead architecture and design reviews, establish engineering standards, mentor junior and senior engineers, and communicate roadmaps, risks, and architecture decisions.
Requirements
- Eight or more years of relevant engineering experience spanning both network engineering and software development.
- Hands-on background with routing, switching, network configuration, troubleshooting, and production network operations, followed by Python software engineering or network automation.
- Strong production Python experience with services, APIs, background processing, testing, packaging, logging, and dependency management.
- Experience creating a network automation platform, infrastructure automation system, or significant greenfield automation capability.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper environments, including Cisco IOS-XE or NX-OS and Juniper Junos.
- Deep understanding of VLANs, LACP, BGP, OSPF, IP addressing, subnetting, and out-of-band management.
- Experience automating production network devices through NETCONF, vendor APIs, structured CLI, SSH, or comparable interfaces.
- Experience with Ansible network automation and at least one additional framework or library such as Nornir, NAPALM, Netmiko, PyEZ, Scrapli, or pyATS.
- SQL and relational data-modeling experience with MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or a comparable production database, including query design and tuning.
- Experience owning architecture for a major software or automation platform, leading design reviews, setting technical standards, mentoring engineers, and communicating roadmaps.
- Experience with Git-based development, peer review, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred qualifications include zero-touch provisioning, compliance and drift detection, NetBox or Nautobot integration, advanced Ansible, MariaDB, Palo Alto PAN-OS, Arista EOS, SNMP, syslog, streaming telemetry, gNMI, Docker, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, virtual network labs, AI-supported operational tools, relevant certifications, and large enterprise or data-center networking.
- Candidates must live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and meet the established workplace expectations.
