Base Salary
$204k - $290k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set the team’s technical strategy on a year-long horizon and connect it to business-impacting projects.
- Design and build multi-region, horizontally scalable, globally available, and high-performance datastore platform components.
- Develop control planes for managing and self-servicing hundreds of databases, including schema and data migrations, disaster recovery, sharding, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with product, infrastructure, site reliability engineering, design, and analytics teams on sustainable database solutions and technical trade-offs.
- Own operational availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call practices.
- Establish code review and design standards, share technical knowledge through writing and tech talks, and mentor team talent.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- 5+ years of hands-on database expertise with relational and/or distributed SQL systems.
- Experience with highly available distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Deep knowledge of schema design, query optimization, scaling, partitioning, sharding, performance tuning, database benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning.
- Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB, Vitess, ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, or Pg Bouncer.
- Experience defining technical and execution plans for major features, system components, or deprecations.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams.
