Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Java cloud-native services for the SQL Gateway, Query Gateway, and data source connector plugins.
- Develop and harden JDBC connector integrations, including connection lifecycle management, credential handling, query pushdown optimization, and security validation.
- Improve query reliability and performance across a multi-tenant distributed SQL deployment.
- Build and operate services on AWS using EKS, IAM/STS, and S3 with infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Implement JDBC URL validation, SSRF prevention, and hostname allowlisting for user-supplied connection parameters.
- Build materialized view scheduling, execution, and lifecycle management features.
- Design and implement canary deployments, progressive rollouts, and observability integration.
- Collaborate on the internal connector bridging federated queries to New Relic’s native telemetry engine.
- Participate in on-call rotation and incident response for production systems.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional Java development experience.
- Strong experience building cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Experience designing and operating containerized microservices on Kubernetes.
- Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.
- Familiarity with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with AWS security patterns.
- Experience defining SLOs and SLIs, dashboards, and alerting with observability tooling.
- Ability to debug production issues across multi-service architectures.
- Experience with gRPC or Thrift-based service communication.
- Experience with GraphQL APIs.
- Preferred experience with SQL query execution, including parsing, planning, optimization, or execution engines.
- Preferred experience with JDBC drivers, connection pooling, and database connector development.
- Preferred experience with distributed query engines or SQL-on-anything platforms.
- Preferred experience developing plugins or connectors for distributed query engines and SPI-based architectures.
- Knowledge of RBAC and authorization systems in multi-tenant SaaS environments.
