Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve backend systems for Postman’s identity and authentication platform.
- Own projects end to end, including requirements clarification, technical design, implementation, rollout, and production support.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to scope, build, test, and launch features and platform improvements.
- Improve reliability, scalability, observability, and operational readiness for team-owned services.
- Lead execution for projects involving two to three engineers through task breakdown, technical guidance, and code reviews.
- Participate in debugging, incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term production fixes.
- Improve engineering quality through stronger test coverage, design and code reviews, and software engineering practices.
- Partner with the manager on roadmap, prioritization, and service-level agreements for owned services.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience building complex backend or distributed systems at scale.
- Experience designing and operating production systems with strong reliability requirements.
- Experience owning ambiguous problems from conception through production with minimal supervision.
- Experience leading or guiding small groups of engineers on execution.
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, networking, data modeling, and system design.
- Ability to write testable, maintainable, and understandable code and make and explain architectural trade-offs.
- Strong collaboration and written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with backend technologies such as Node.js, Java, Python, Go, or Ruby.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure, with experience building or operating microservices at scale.
- Experience with databases, caching, queues, event-driven systems, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
- Familiarity with authentication, authorization, identity, RBAC, access control, or security-sensitive systems is a plus.
