
Lead Systems Operations Engineer - Platform Reliability Engineering, SRE, Observability and Monitoring, Platform Support

- Lead complex, broad-impact platform reliability and systems operations initiatives.
- Provide high-level systems consultation and participate in large-scale computer systems and network infrastructure planning.
- Review and resolve complex technical challenges and escalated production support issues.
- Make decisions on technical changes and enhancements and advise engineering teams on change design and controls.
- Improve platform stability, scalability, availability, observability, and operational excellence.
- Apply SRE practices including SLI/SLO definition, error budgets, reliability metrics, incident response, and production troubleshooting.
- Build scripting, automation, and reliability tooling to reduce operational toil.
- Support capacity management, performance engineering, resiliency design, technical debt remediation, and hybrid infrastructure operations.
- Mentor or lead senior engineers and collaborate across platform, application, support, and leadership teams.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of systems engineering, technology architecture, or equivalent experience demonstrated through work, training, military experience, or education.
- Deep expertise in at least one platform domain, such as database, cloud, network, compute/storage, middleware, or enterprise application support.
- Strong hands-on experience with SRE practices, including SLI/SLO definition, error budgets, and reliability metrics.
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving large-scale distributed production systems.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools, dashboards, alerting, logs, and metrics.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, and/or PowerShell.
- Experience building automation or reliability tooling using APIs, Git-based workflows, and modern engineering practices.
- Understanding of incident, problem, and change management in enterprise production environments.
- Experience with capacity management, performance engineering, resiliency design, high availability, fault tolerance, and RTO/RPO.
- Experience operating in hybrid on-premises and cloud environments with complex enterprise dependencies.
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
- Ability to drive technical debt remediation, manage multiple priorities, and deliver reliable outcomes in high-impact production environments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, influencing, data-driven problem-solving, and operational rigor.
- Prior project or initiative leadership experience and experience mentoring or leading senior engineers are highly desirable.
