Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Linux hypervisor and guest operating-system images for containerized workloads.
- Develop automated image creation, customization, validation, publishing, staged rollout, monitoring, and rollback processes.
- Customize Linux across kernel-facing, systemd, networking, storage, security, package-management, and boot layers.
- Build lifecycle-management and platform components using Java, Go, and shell scripting.
- Integrate and troubleshoot container runtimes, OCI container behavior, QEMU/KVM virtualization, and paravirtualized devices.
- Improve performance, boot time, reliability, resource utilization, isolation, and scalability across virtualized Linux environments.
- Build CI/CD and image-release pipelines supporting vulnerability remediation, security validation, canary deployment, compatibility checks, and release evidence.
- Integrate the data plane with OCI networking, storage, identity, telemetry, and infrastructure lifecycle services.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and validation with Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Coordinate releases across hypervisor fleets and global regions, participate in on-call and incident response, and improve monitoring and reliability.
- Create design documents, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and architectural decisions while mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Approximately 6+ years of relevant production software or systems-engineering experience, or demonstrably equivalent IC4-level scope.
- Strong production programming experience with Java 17 or later.
- Hands-on Linux systems engineering and kernel-level debugging, including processes, services, namespaces, cgroups, systemd, networking, storage, and operating-system behavior.
- Deep container-engineering experience involving container images, runtimes, or isolation concepts such as Docker, OCI containers, containerd, runc, or CRI-O.
- Strong Bash or shell scripting and low-level troubleshooting skills.
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, distributed systems, testing, and software design.
- Production experience with at least one public cloud and highly available services, including monitoring, incident response, and on-call participation.
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, release automation, and Infrastructure as Code; Terraform experience is expected.
- Preferred qualifications include Java 25, JVM internals, QEMU/KVM, Go or Rust, C, kernel development, Linux image and package technologies, advanced cgroup and performance analysis, Linux networking, storage and security, debugging and profiling tools, ARM/aarch64 and x86 pipelines, and OCI services and APIs.
