Base Salary

$112k - $168k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain features in the storefront service, collaborating with product managers and partner engineering teams on requirements, design, and delivery.
  • Extend GraphQL Storefront API queries and fields while maintaining backward compatibility for headless storefronts and third-party integrations.
  • Evolve the service to support AI-driven shopping agents and assistants that browse, build carts, and check out.
  • Investigate production issues and improve service performance and reliability.
  • Review code from teammates and other engineering teams and participate in design reviews and pairing with senior engineers.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience building backend services that run in production.
  • Preferred minimum bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering, MIS, or equivalent experience.
  • Production experience with Scala or Kotlin is preferred; backend engineers experienced in Java, Go, or other languages who are willing to learn Scala are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience translating stakeholder requirements into technical designs and delivering them to production.
  • Working knowledge of HTTP fundamentals, including caching headers, cookies, sessions, and timeouts.
  • Familiarity with GraphQL APIs, service-to-service communication, and caching technologies such as gRPC and Redis.
  • Experience debugging production issues using metrics, traces, and logs, including tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or Sentry.
  • Familiarity with feature flags, gradual rollouts, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Regular use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Cursor, with careful review of generated code.
  • Interest in how AI agents use APIs, including MCP and tool calling.
