Base Salary

$120k - $160k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Develop reactor software for data acquisition, telemetry processing, command handling, state management, fault response, operator interaction, and automated test environments.
  • Own features end to end from test specifications and interface definitions through implementation, review, integration, and documentation.
  • Build consistent controls and interfaces for real instruments and in-memory simulations across simulation, bench, HIL/HITL, and reactor environments.
  • Implement timeline scheduling, event and gate handling, mode transitions, command validation, command feedback, and telemetry streaming.
  • Create software interfaces for hardware adapters, telemetry sinks, DAQs, sensors, controllers, operator tools, and external data systems.
  • Implement telemetry validation and quality states including valid, invalid, stale, unavailable, and suspect.
  • Develop fault detection, classification, containment, recovery, reset, diagnostics, logging, and observability behavior.
  • Write automated tests for real system behavior and hardware-facing workflows where practical.
  • Support simulation, HIL/HITL, hardware bring-up, integrated reactor testing, and software-hardware debugging.
  • Collaborate on interface control documents, communication schemas, data dictionaries, integration test plans, design reviews, code reviews, test readiness reviews, and root-cause investigations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
  • Software Engineer I requires 0-2 years of experience, while Software Engineer II requires 2-5 years of experience.
  • Experience developing maintainable production or project software for hardware-integrated, distributed, embedded, robotics, aerospace, automotive, industrial, or mission-critical systems is required.
  • Strong Python 3 fundamentals, including typed code, structured data models, exceptions, testing, and idiomatic code organization, are required.
  • Knowledge of data structures, object-oriented design, and readable, testable, maintainable software interfaces is required.
  • Familiarity with concurrent, asynchronous, or multi-process patterns such as asyncio, threads, multiprocessing, event loops, IPC, networking, or message passing is required.
  • Experience integrating software with sensors, controllers, DAQs, instruments, power supplies, embedded systems, simulations, or other hardware-facing interfaces is required.
  • Ability to design data models, state machines, command flows, and testable system behaviors is required.
  • Strong debugging skills across software, hardware, and system-integration boundaries are required.
  • Experience with Git, pull requests, code review, and technical documentation is required.
  • U.S. person status or eligibility to obtain required export authorizations is required.
  • Preferred experience includes hardware or instrumentation software, event-driven command-and-control systems, telemetry pipelines, state-machine architectures, fault-aware behavior, messaging and networking technologies, simulation, HIL, fault injection, test automation, continuous integration, Linux, containerized environments, modern Python tooling, C, C++, Rust, embedded interfaces, binary data formats, and safety- or mission-critical systems.

  • Base salary is listed by level: Software Engineer I $120k-$135k and Software Engineer II $135k-$160k.
  • The role includes hands-on work across simulation, bench, hardware-in-the-loop, and full-scale reactor environments.
  • Employees collaborate in person across software, electrical, controls, embedded systems, safety, test, and systems teams; travel to meet stakeholders may occur.
